About us and our artwork
My name is John Walker and I am an artist working mostly in oils. Since retiring from a busy business life I am now living in Norfolk with my wife Helen. We are both members of the West Norfolk Artists Association and I have recently become chairman of the group.
In painting both landscapes and seascapes in Norfolk I have tried to capture some of the dramatic atmosphere around us. I have also produced new work from my recent visits to the Kent coast at Dungeness with its beaches and lighthouse scenes, and the beautiful coast of Northumberland with Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne.
Lately, as a change from oils I have been enjoying linocuts in short runs. This brings a new dimension to my work and introduces some seabird subjects which reflect the coastal scene. Just drawing with charcoal and pencil concentrates the eye and is a good discipline for all artwork studies especially when painting portraits.
I have always been interested in art and took the opportunity in later life to explore different mediums. I attended classes and went to workshops, which was a great way to meet people and learn something new. As a result after a number of years I work in stained glass, acrylic paints, and recently have pushed the barriers by using various acrylic mediums which can give a very textured appearance. My other interest is mosaics where I use both ceramic and glass.
